Piercing Aftercare
We offer two aftercare solutions for your new tattoo; traditional plastic wrapping, and second skin.
Plastic wrapping
Your tattoo will be wrapped after it has been completed in order to keep the area clean while plasma, blood, and ink is discharged.
Leave the wrap on for at least 3 hours, or longer if your tattoo artist recommends it, then wash it with Pure Soap and cool water. Allow the tattoo to air dry or gently pat with paper towel.
Wash your tattoo like this every morning and evening for 2 weeks while it is healing.
Wash the tattooed area if it comes into contact with a dirty surface or becomes covered in foreign
material.
Allow the tattoo to “dry heal” for 2 days. This means you do not apply a moisturiser or lotion to the area after washing it or during the day. This is important as it allows your body to
form a scab before more moisture is added.
Feel free to contact us if you are concerned about your tattoo while healing.
After the 2nd day apply a thin layer of petroleum-free and fragrance-free moisturiser. We recommend E45 or Epimax. Please avoid creams that have fragrance (parfum) and petroleum (petrolatum) in them.
for the 2 week duration of your healing please wash and cream the tattoo twice daily (morning& night)
Second Skin
Second skin, hydrofilm, or derma film is a thin, clear, waterproof plaster that covers the entire area of the tattoo and stays on for most of the healing process.
It is applied after your tattoo is completed and stays of for 5-7 days.
If the film starts to peel off at the sides, trim off the excess, being careful not to cut yourself.
If the film has peeled off to where it has less than 1cm of film around the tattoo edges, remove it under warm running water with a soapy lather.
Take your time removing the film.
Wash your tattoo with Pure Soap and allow to air dry until the tattoo is healed.
Apply a thin layer of petroleum-free and fragrance free moisturiser after washing. We recommend E45 or Epimax. Please avoid creams that have fragrance (parfum) and petroleum (petrolatum) in them.
